Traveling is not just about visiting new places or taking a holiday, it can be a transformative experience that has the power to calm the soul. Here are ten ways traveling can do just that:
1. Escape: Traveling provides an opportunity to escape from the routine of daily life, allowing you to clear your mind and gain perspective.
2. Relaxation: Traveling allows you to relax and rejuvenate in beautiful, peaceful surroundings.
3. Change of Pace: Experiencing a different pace of life through travel can be incredibly refreshing and help to reset your priorities.
4. Change of Scenery: The simple act of experiencing different landscapes and cultures can have a soothing effect and provide a new perspective to life.
5. New Experiences: Trying new things, from food to activities, can be exhilarating and open up new possibilities.
6. Meeting New People: Connecting with locals and fellow travelers can provide meaningful, enriching experiences.
7. Self-Reflection: Traveling often leads to self-reflection and reevaluation of personal goals and values.
8. Exposure to Different Cultures: Experiencing different cultures can lead to greater tolerance and appreciation for diversity.
9. Time to Unplug: Disconnecting from technology and social media can be a powerful way to recharge and focus on the present moment.
10. Memories: The memories created during travel can bring joy and positivity for many years to come. In short, travel has the power to calm the soul by providing new perspectives, new experiences, and a change of pace. By embracing these opportunities, we can renew our sense of self and bring positivity back to our daily lives.
UNDER THE RAINY COLORADO SKIES
A couple summers ago a few friends and I went on a backpacking trip in Colorado. We were all excited to explore the beautiful Rocky Mountains, but we were also aware that the weather could be unpredictable. On the second day of our trip, the forecast called for rain, so we decided to make camp early and hunker down for the night. We set up our tents and started to prepare dinner when suddenly the skies opened up and it started pouring down rain. It rained steadily for hours, and we were stuck inside our tents with nothing to do but wait it out. To pass the time, we decided to play a game of “Would You Rather.”
WOULD YOU RATHER…
At first, the questions were pretty tame, like “Would you rather have to use a port-a-potty for the rest of your life or never take a hot shower again?”
But as the night went on and our minds got sillier from the boredom, the questions started getting crazier. “Would you rather fight a grizzly bear with a plastic fork or have to sleep in a tent made entirely of cheese?”
My friend Erin came up with the most ridiculous question of all: “Would you rather be stranded on a desert island with a horse-sized duck or 100 duck-sized horses?” We all burst out laughing at the absurdity of the question, and for the rest of the trip, every time something went wrong, we’d say “Well, at least we’re not stranded on a desert island with a horse-sized duck!” Despite the terrible weather, it ended up being one of the funniest and most memorable trips I’ve ever been on. And whenever I think of that silly game of “Would You Rather,” I can’t help but laugh and remember all the hilarious moments we shared under those rainy Colorado skies.
